Scholarship Helps Sabria Johnson ’25 Launch Students’ Higher Education Journeys

Sabria Johnson, a recent graduate of the College of Education’s Applied Education Studies: Learning Design and Technology program, loves helping community college students begin their higher education journeys. Working at Wake Tech while earning her bachelor’s degree at NC State helped Johnson afford her tuition, as did the COMID Scholarship she received through the College of Education.

Studies Look for Potential Therapy Targets for Dogs With Chiari-like Malformation

A pair of recent studies from NC State researchers, including Natasha Olby, the Dr. Kady M. Gjessing and Rahna M. Davidson Distinguished Chair in Gerontology at NC State, looked for biomarkers and genetic markers of a syndrome associated with skull malformations common in Cavalier King Charles spaniels and other toy breeds. The findings could lead to better targeted therapeutics for symptoms as well as potential genetic targets for treatment.

The Libraries Selects Annual Student Awards Winners

Each school year, the NC State University Libraries recognizes some of its many exemplary student employees with its Student Awards. The Libraries held a ceremony in April to honor the 2024-25 winners including Simone Smith, who was a Libraries Student Scholarship recipient in 2024.

NC State ECE Researchers Secure DARPA Funding for New Project

Researchers from the College of Engineering’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering have secured a three-year, $5 million grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) aimed at improving energy-efficient communications for a variety of applications. Team leaders include co-principal investigator Fred Kish, MC Dean Distinguished Professor.

Exciting Entrepreneurship Displayed at VenturePack Challenge

Wolfpack entrepreneurs participated in NC State’s largest entrepreneurship competition on April 14. The challenge’s Daugherty Endowment Track, which is open to officially registered startup companies that have licensed NC State intellectual property in the past three years, is made possible by the Richard L. and Marlene V. Daugherty Centennial Campus Entrepreneurialism Endowment with funding partnership from the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology and Science and collaboration with the NC State Office of Partnerships and Office of Research Commercialization.

Jordan Everett ’25 Starts Her Career in Activewear

Jordan Everett is a member of the second graduating class of Textile Pioneer Scholars. The merit- and need-based scholarship is open to Wilson College of Textiles students from non-metropolitan areas of North Carolina, giving recipients such as Everett the ability to Think and Do as members of the Pack.

William Enck Named Goodnight Distinguished Professor in Security Sciences

William Enck, a faculty member in the College of Engineering’s Department of Computer Science since 2011, has been named the Goodnight Distinguished Professor in Security Sciences. This generous investment by Dr. Jim and Mrs. Ann Goodnight will further his work by funding research into new areas, creating undergraduate and graduate education experiences and more.

5 Questions With Hodges Wood Products Lab Business Manager JT Chappell

John Thomas “JT” Chappell graduated from NC State in May 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in sustainable materials and technology and minors in renewable energy assessment and environmental sciences. During his time at NC State, Chappell also served as a laboratory technician and was a recipient of the Jerry H. Fox Scholarship, the James B. and Mildred B. Wilkinson Endowed Scholarship and the Alfred. J. Stamm Memorial Scholarship.
