Meet the Brevard Zoo’s New Veterinarian, Dr. Rachel Turner

Rachel Turner is a Park Scholar from the class of 2012 who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science and then attended the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. Most recently, Turner worked as the associate veterinarian at the Birmingham Zoo.

Four Faculty Win Holladay Medal

Four faculty members received the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence, the highest honor bestowed by NC State and the university’s Board of Trustees. Chancellor Randy Woodson will recognize the awardees, including three distinguished professors, during the Celebration of Faculty Excellence on April 30.

Distinguished Professorship Will Be Renamed to Honor Former ABB President and CEO

The ABB Distinguished Professorship will soon be renamed the ABB Enrique Santacana Distinguished Professorship in honor of Santacana, former president and CEO of ABB, who passed away in October 2023. Santacana was recently recognized at the annual FREEDM Systems Center Research Symposium for his instrumental contributions to establishing the ABB Distinguished Professorship and other endowments at NC State.

Beasley Named President-Elect of American Accounting Association Board of Directors

The Poole College of Management’s Mark Beasley, the Alan T. Dickson Distinguished Professor of Accounting and director of the Enterprise Risk Management Initiative, will start his three-year term at the board’s annual meeting in August.

Spontak Awarded Honorary Doctorate at NTNU Doctoral Awards Ceremony

Richard Spontak, a distinguished professor in the College of Engineering with joint appointments in the departments of Materials Science and Engineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, was recently awarded an honorary doctorate at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) during its Doctoral Awards Ceremony. The ceremony recognized Spontak’s exceptional contributions to chemical process engineering and polymer science.

NC State Announces New Scholarship Funded by Alumni Rhett & Link

During NC State’s Day of Giving 2024, College of Engineering alumni Rhett McLaughlin ’00 and Link Neal ’01 (aka Rhett & Link) established a full-ride, two-year scholarship via their company, Mythical. The Rhett & Link Engineering Innovation Scholarship Fund will be available to third- and fourth-year Engineering students who demonstrate a commitment to innovation and creativity in engineering, sciences, the arts, entertainment or the intersection of these disciplines.
