ChemEd Summit Envisions Interdisciplinary Future for Chemistry Students

On March 8, NC State’s Integrative Sciences Initiative, in partnership with the Departments of Chemistry and Molecular and Structural Biochemistry and under the auspices of the College of Sciences Dean’s Faculty Fellow Program, hosted a one-day event that brought together members from the industrial, academic and state and federal chemical sciences communities. The result: a giant leap forward in how the Pack is transforming undergraduate chemical sciences education for the next-generation workforce.

Farhan Gandhi Named Hassan A. Hassan Distinguished Professor

Farhan Gandhi, world-renowned for his research contributions to the field of eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft technologies, was recently appointed the newly established Hassan A. Hassan Distinguished Professor at the NC State University Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE). Hassan, late titan of the MAE department and legend in the field of aerospace engineering, helped establish the professorship shortly before his passing in 2019.

The Libraries’ Annual Donors and Scholars Event Spotlights the Significance of Legacy

The NC State University Libraries student scholarship awardees and donors gathered in Hunt Library’s Duke Energy Hall for a Donors and Scholars reception on February 22. For the 2023-24 academic year, philanthropic support for the Libraries Student Scholarship Fund allowed the Libraries to award 18 talented students with scholarships totaling $67,760.

Leaders Named to N.C. PSI Commercialization Council

The new council will inform the N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative’s efforts to deliver to growers across North Carolina by helping provide access to transformational technologies and support tools. Stephen Markham, Goodnight Distinguished University Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the executive director of NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship, is co-chair of the council.

NC State Receives $6.9 Million to Fund New Oceans and Human Health Center

Researchers from NC State have received a five-year, $6.9 million grant co-funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to establish the North Carolina Center for Coastal Algae, People and Environment. College of Sciences faculty are leading the new center, which will focus on the human health risks posed by the blooms in North Carolina coastal waters.
