Q&A with Traci Lamar: Fashion and Textile Design Showcase

Traci Lamar, a professor in the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management at Wilson College of Textiles, sat down to share the big picture impact of the Fashion and Textile Design showcase. After seven years, the showcase has grown in many ways — and with increased donor support, Lamar says, graduating students could truly demonstrate their full potential to industry leaders.

Textiles Loaner Program Keeps Students on Track

Female Mentors, Textile Education Inspire Jennifer Denton Stanigar ’90 to Establish Pioneer Program Endowment

Jennifer Denton Stanigar ’90 recently established the Jennifer Denton Stanigar Pioneer Program Endowment at the Wilson College of Textiles. The Pioneer Scholars program provides scholarships and wraparound support for students from North Carolina’s economically challenged Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties.

Textile Sensor Patch, Made with Conductive Yarns, Could Detect Pressure Points for Amputees

A soft, flexible sensor system created with electrically conductive yarns could help map problematic pressure points in the socket of an amputee’s prosthetic limb, researchers from NC State report in a new study. The research team includes Tushar Ghosh, the William A. Klopman Distinguished Professor of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science, and Helen Huang, the Jackson Family Distinguished Professor in the UNC/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Meet Young Alumna Jennifer Woodson ’10

Jennifer Woodson’s passion for sustainable performance apparel brought her to NC State to pursue her graduate studies. That experience led to a number of years in the industry and the founding of her own independent consulting firm specialized in sourcing and developing textiles and materials for the apparel and accessories industry. Woodson now shares her expertise by volunteering as a graduate mentor for the Wilson College of Textiles, as well as serving as one of its regional representatives.

Two Named Fellows of Inventors Academy

Two NC State faculty members have been honored for their innovative work at the forefront of their disciplines: Tom Ranney, the J.C. Raulston Distinguished Professor in the Department of Horticultural Science, and Behnam Pourdeyhimi, the Klopman Distinguished Professor of Textile Materials and associate dean for industry research and extension in the Wilson College of Textiles. In June, they will be formally inducted as fellows of the National Academy of Inventors at a ceremony in Tampa, Florida.
