Wilson College of Textiles Welcomes 2024 Class of Centennial Scholars

The Centennial Scholarship program was established by the North Carolina Textile Foundation in 1999 as part of the Wilson College of Textiles Centennial Celebration. These scholarships are awarded to incoming first-year students based on academic achievement in high school, proven and potential leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and unique life experiences. Meet the 10 Centennial Scholars from the class of 2024.

Made in North Carolina: Public and Private Partners Join Forces to Deliver PPE to Health Care Workers Statewide

NC State’s Nonwovens Institute (NWI) announced a new partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC), Freudenberg Performance Materials, UNC Health, the NC Healthcare Association and NC Medical Society to manufacture N95 masks to equip frontline workers across North Carolina with a safe and cost-effective solution. A donation of $450,000 from Blue Cross NC allowed NC State to purchase two mask-molding machines needed to produce effective and reliable N95 respirators locally, as well as to procure materials and supplies used for production.

North Carolina Textile Foundation Fellowship recipient and Graduate School student Samit Chakraborty has traveled the world in search of a quality textiles education. That quest eventually led him to the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State, where he is currently completing his doctorate.

Meet Wilson College of Textiles Young Alumna Brielle Papalia ’15

Brielle Papalia, a young alumna of the Wilson College of Textiles from Kernersville, is part of her family’s fourth generation to enter the textile industry. Now an assistant product development manager at Gap Inc. in New York, she stays connected as a Wilson College of Textiles regional representative for the Northeast, mentoring, growing the alumni network, promoting the alumni foundation and keeping alumni up to date on current events at the college.

After experiencing the Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP) program as a high schooler, Courtney Oswald chose the Wilson College of Textiles and never looked back. The ITT Roger Milliken Centennial Scholarship set Oswald on her path to a career at Under Armour.

Small Town Values Inspire ‘Textile Twins’ Charles and Thomas Poston to Create Endowment

Life in Siler City, along with the similarly closeknit community at Wilson College of Textiles, helped prepare twins Charles and Thomas Poston '83 for successful careers in the textile industry. Recently, the brothers established the Charles and Thomas Poston Endowed Scholarship Fund at the college in order to create similar opportunities for talented students of modest means.
