Athletics Adds Sustainability Intern, Events

NC State Athletics recently hired its first athletics sustainability intern: Claire Henson, a senior in the Wilson College of Textiles majoring in textile engineering and minoring in environmental science. In addition to being the athletics sustainability intern, Henson is an Engineering Ambassador, NC State Steward and Wilson College of Textiles Centennial Scholar.

Glen Raven Donates $250K to Wilson College of Textiles

Glen Raven, Inc., a global textile company based near Burlington, made a recent gift to the Wilson College of Textiles’ Pioneer Scholarship Program, as well as the Dean’s Textile Innovation Fund. The scholarship program supports North Carolina students studying textiles from rural towns and communities in the state, supporting a bustling future for both Pack graduates and the textile industry.

Introducing the 2025 Class of Textile Pioneer Scholars

Meet the three students comprising the 2025 class of Textile Pioneer Scholars. The $14,000 scholarship is given each year to students from non-metropolitan areas in North Carolina planning to attend the Wilson College of Textiles. Scholars also receive $4,000 in enrichment funds heading into their first year.

Four years ago, alumnus Bud Murphy ’69 attended a luncheon where David Hinks, dean of the Wilson College of Textiles, was the lead speaker. Murphy has been more engaged in the college’s work, with a particular pride in its military-related projects, ever since.

Making Her Mark: Wei Gao Honored as University Scholar

Wei Gao, associate professor of textile engineering, chemistry and science (TECS) in the Wilson College of Textiles, was recently named a University Faculty Scholar in NC State’s 2021 class, joining 20 other early- and mid-career faculty who received this designation. The honor recognizes outstanding academic achievements and contributions to NC State through their teaching, scholarship and service to the university and beyond.
