39 CVM Students Receive 2020 Annable Scholarships

Meet the 39 students from the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine who have been selected as Annable Scholars this academic year. The scholarship covers up to half of their tuition and fees, and recipients are chosen on the basis of need, as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service. The Michele M. and Ross M. Annable Scholarship Endowment is a result of a $5 million gift from the Annables in 2016 and has been matched by $5 million from the Randall B. Terry Charitable Foundation.

CVM Class of 2024 Story: From Swim Caps to Scrubs

In addition to being an Annable Scholar in the College of Veterinary Medicine class of 2024, Raena Eldridge is the 2020 Arthur Ashe Jr. Female Sports Scholar of the Year. Her commitment to swimming and veterinary medicine has driven her to do the extraordinary, and she looks forward to what's next as she continues her education at NC State.

A Strawless Step Forward

Park Scholars Shannon Dolan, majoring in environmental sciences, and Annalise Hafner, majoring in biochemistry and nutrition science, are using a grant from the NC State Sustainability Fund to explore ways to reduce the number of single-use plastic straws discarded on campus. Efforts include promoting reusable straws, not using straws at all and using compostable sip lids.

Patty Fields has worked at the NC State College of Education for 15 years. Giving back has always been a part of her life, and after her father passed away, she and her husband established the Robert J. Fenton Memorial Scholarship to honor his love of learning and great respect for educators.
