Hollylynne Lee Receives 2023 William D. Warde Statistics Education Award

Hollylynne Lee, a distinguished professor of mathematics and statistics education in the College of Education, has been named the recipient of the 2023 William D. Warde Statistics Education Award.

Yuan Honored With RJ Reynolds Award

Fuh-Gwo Yuan, Samuel P. Langley Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, recently received the 2023 R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension. The award is supported by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company through the NC State Engineering Foundation and presents recipients with $25,000 paid out over five years.

Robotic Prosthetic Ankles Improve ‘Natural’ Movement, Stability

Robotic prosthetic ankles that are controlled by nerve impulses allow amputees to move more “naturally,” improving their stability, according to a new study. Helen Huang, corresponding author of the study, is also the Jackson Family Distinguished Professor in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Keung Named Goodnight Distinguished Scholar

Albert Keung, associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has been named the Goodnight Distinguished Scholar in Innovation in Biotechnology and Biomolecular Engineering. The position was made possible by a gift from NC State alumni Dr. James and Mrs. Ann Goodnight.

NC State to Lead Regional Semiconductor Innovation Hub

NC State has been awarded $39.4 million from the Department of Defense to serve as the leader of a regional innovation hub in wide bandgap semiconductors. John Muth, Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the primary investigator on the award, and Fred Kish, MC Dean Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the director of the new hub.

NC State Recognizes College Faculty for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Franky So, the Walter and Ida Freeman Distinguished Professor in the College of Engineering’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was recently presented with the John S. Risley Entrepreneur of the Year award for his work with organic light-emitting diode technologies and the role of his research in the founding of five startup companies. So was recognized Oct. 3 as part of NC State’s 32nd Celebration of Innovation event.

Yuan Receives Hans-Jurgen Schmidt Award

Samuel P. Langley Distinguished Professor Fuh-Gwo Yuan, from the College of Engineering’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, recently received the 2023 Hans-Jurgen Schmidt Award from the International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring. The award was established to recognize an individual for his or her outstanding leadership in advancing technologies in industry and government.
