Poole College of Management Launches Free Financial Literacy Program

The research-based program is open to the public and designed to help adults build financial knowledge and confidence for everyday decision-making. Classes are taught by current Poole professors including Umut Dur, NC State’s Truist Distinguished Professor of Economics and director of Poole College’s graduate programs.

How Modified Robotic Prosthetics Could Help Address Hip, Back Problems for Amputees

Researchers have developed a new algorithm that combines two processes for personalizing robotic prosthetic devices to both optimize the movement of the prosthetic limb and, for the first time, help a human user’s body engage in a more natural walking pattern. Helen Huang, the Jackson Family Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Lampe Joint Department, is the senior author of the paper.

Narayan and Yingling Honored With 2025 R.J. Reynolds Awards

Roger Narayan and Yaroslava Yingling each recently received the 2025 R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension, the most prestigious award the College of Engineering presents to individual NC State faculty members. Narayan is a distinguished professor in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Yingling is the Kobe Steel Distinguished Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Researchers Develop Guidelines for Diagnosing, Monitoring Canine Cognitive Decline

An international working group of canine cognition experts has released a set of guidelines for veterinarians to use in diagnosing and monitoring canine dementia. Natasha Olby, Dr. Kady M. Gjessing and Rahna M. Davidson Distinguished Chair in Gerontology at NC State, is the lead author of the paper.

Life-Saving Innovations

R. Michael Roe, an NC State entomologist whose in-depth research on insect biology has led to innovative products that protect human health, was recently selected as a 2025 fellow in the National Academy of Inventors. Roe is a William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology and a faculty member with NC State’s toxicology program.

NC State Announces 2025-26 Goodnight Early Career Innovators

The Goodnight Early Career Innovators program recognizes and rewards promising NC State early-career faculty whose scholarship is in STEM or STEM education. The 25 faculty selected for this cohort will receive $22,000 ­for each of the next three years to support their scholarship and research endeavors.

Fanxing Li, the Thomas M. Clausi Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering and University Faculty Scholar, is the recipient of the 2026 ENFL Mid-Career Award from the American Chemical Society Division of Energy & Fuels (ENFL). This award recognizes sustained and distinguished contributions to the field of energy and fuel chemistry.
