Park Scholarships Announces Class of 2022

The new class of Park Scholars was selected from a record-setting pool of nearly 2,120 outstanding applicants from 43 states and 95 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. Recipients are chosen based on outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Park Scholar Featured in Art2Wear

Christian Fuda, a senior majoring in industrial design, stepped out of his comfort zone to pursue his passion of fashion design as he presented an avant-garde collection for the annual fashion show Art2Wear, hosted by NC State's College of Design. The program recently celebrated its 17th year as a student-organized runway show presenting fashion, costume and wearable sculpture created by students.

Alumna Explores the Oil Industry

NC State graduate Lauren Cagley always enjoyed problem-solving and using creativity to make a difference, so discovering her calling in engineering during her undergraduate career as a Park Scholar paved the way for a bright future. At the ExxonMobil Beaumont Refinery in Beaumont, Texas, she is currently responsible for managing day-to-day logistics for 375,000 barrels of crude oil daily.

sPark: A Park Scholarships Symposium

Students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and selection committee members met at the StateView Hotel on NC State’s Centennial Campus earlier in April for sPark 2018 — the Park Scholarships' second biannual leadership and networking symposium. The weekend exemplifying the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service and character, and brought together individuals from all stages of life and career.

CALS Student Spotlight: Dani Winter Receives NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Dani Winter, a biological and agricultural engineering major, is among 2,000 students nationwide named as 2018 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellows. She credits the Park Scholars Program and NC State with helping her become an "exceptional scholar, leader and public servant."

Education Student Ashley Lawson Named Truman Scholar

Ashley Lawson, a Park Scholar and senior majoring mathematics education and mathematics, has been named as one of 59 recipients of the prestigious Truman Scholarship, which invests in the potential of individuals committed to public service leadership. She is NC State's 10th Truman Scholar.

Maloney Awarded Goldwater Scholarship

Madison Maloney, a Park Scholar and an NC State junior majoring in aerospace engineering, has received the prestigious award from The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. She is one of 211 students selected from an applicant pool of 1,280.

The Special Olympics Play Unified: Invitational Games

Park Scholars are working together on a Community Enrichment Initiative (CEI) titled The Special Olympics Play Unified: Invitational Games. It is an event sponsored by the NC State Unified Club and Special Olympics North Carolina, to pair NC State students and Special Olympic athletes.

Two Internships, One Year

As a sophomore, NC State Park Scholar and political science major Aoife Sinclair already has built an impressive resume. For the past two semesters, she has taken a break from her on-campus studies to pursue internships with television programs "Sesame Street" and "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee."
