‘We Share a Kinship’: Black Alumni Society Fosters Connection, Community

Originally formed to connect members to their alma mater, the Black Alumni Society has grown into a tight-knit group linking past, present and future Black NC State students. Seeing the opportunities that arise and the difference they’re able to make in students’ lives through the society has also given the members a new outlook on philanthropy.

NC State Alumni Association Leader to Retire

After 11 years at the helm of NC State’s Alumni Association, Benny Suggs has entered into a phased retirement process that will culminate in his departure from the university in December 2022. The Wolfpack alumnus, Navy veteran and former Harley-Davidson executive has made a lasting impact on his alma mater as a supporter, donor, leader and more, serving as a key factor in many of the university’s successes.

A Lifetime of Commitment

William O’Brien ’81 created his legacy and boosted NC State’s through his work as an alumnus, volunteer and donor. He’s honoring his experiences with the Caldwell Fellows program by creating a new endowment through planned and current use gifts that will continue serving Caldwell Fellows far into the future.

Meet the 2021 Mathews Medal Winners

The Mathews Medal recognizes graduating seniors who have made NC State a better place. This year’s recipients include a Goodnight Scholar committed to paying it forward, a soccer player who helped form Pack United, a campus leader who has devoted time to projects including Service Raleigh and Feed the Pack, and a Park Scholar dedicated to promoting a culture of giving within the program.

Fitts-Woolard Hall, the College of Engineering’s newest building on NC State’s Centennial Campus, opened last summer. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, has slowed the full transition into the facility and prevented alumni from visiting its extraordinary new spaces. Now, the college and the Alumni Association have teamed up to offer this online peek.
