MAE Student Selected as COE Faculty Senior Scholar

A rising senior in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering has been selected as the 2023-24 College of Engineering Faculty Senior Scholar. Zoe Marazita was selected from a pool of 10 nominees by the COE Scholarship Committee to receive the prestigious scholarship, which is awarded annually to a full-time student who exemplifies academic excellence, intellectual breadth and depth of character, and is projected to graduate in the following academic year.

Jason Bocarro Honored With 2023 UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching

Jason Bocarro, the Owens-Shelton Distinguished Professor for Leadership with a Global Perspective, has been named as the recipient of the 2023 UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. The honor is the university system’s most prestigious teaching award, recognizing and encouraging faculty’s extraordinary teaching contributions.

Drake Receives Seven Seals Award

Nick Drake, the director of Jeffrey Wright Military and Veteran Services, was recently recognized for his “meritorious leadership and initiative in support of the men and women who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve.”

Miles Engell Receives 2023 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching

The Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching is the most prestigious award given to professional full-time faculty from NC State’s 10 colleges and the University College. Miles Engell, a teaching professor in the College of Sciences, is known as an outstanding educator who engages and challenges students by applying real examples of animal behavior research to the topic addressed.

NC State’s New Standing CT a Game-Changer for Equine Care

Thanks to donor support, the NC State Veterinary Hospital has installed standing CT equipment that allows equine experts to scan the heads and throat latches of horses without having to put the animals under general anesthesia.

Supporting the True Nature of Education

Wilson Cunningham has supported the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and its Department of Plant and Microbial Biology in a number of ways over the years, culminating with the creation of the H. Wilson Cunningham Student Laboratory Enrichment Endowment. On the 2023 Day of Giving, Cunningham even committed to matching up to $10,000 in gifts to the fund.

North Carolina State University Foundation, Inc., Accepting 2023 Grant Proposals

The North Carolina State University Foundation is currently accepting proposal submissions for its annual grant program, which provides seed-funding for new and innovative programs or initiatives that enhance the quality of the undergraduate and graduate experience at NC State. Grant requests of up to $25,000 are allowed, so be sure to submit your proposal before this year’s deadline of May 5.

NC State Names New Dean of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

Garey Fox has been named dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences following a nationwide search. His appointment becomes effective August 1, pending Board of Trustees approval.

NC State Announces 2023 Mathews Medal Winners

As the highest non-academic distinction awarded to NC State students, the Mathews Medal honors graduating seniors who have served as student leaders and made significant contributions to the advancement of the university. This year’s recipients include a figure skater, a Park Scholar and a composting pioneer — all of whom have sought to make NC State more sustainable, equitable and inclusive.
