Special Day of Giving to Support Diversity and Inclusion

The theme for September's special Day of Giving fall event is “Stronger as a Pack,” aimed toward making sure everyone can adapt in difficult circumstances while meeting urgent and ongoing needs, expanding opportunity and providing meaningful space for all. One of the day's four focus areas, the Diversity and Equity Fund provides support for programs and initiatives of the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, which includes the Campus Community Centers, Bias Impact Response Team, Equal Opportunity and Equity and Inclusive Excellence and Strategic Practice.

39 CVM Students Receive 2020 Annable Scholarships

Meet the 39 students from the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine who have been selected as Annable Scholars this academic year. The scholarship covers up to half of their tuition and fees, and recipients are chosen on the basis of need, as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service. The Michele M. and Ross M. Annable Scholarship Endowment is a result of a $5 million gift from the Annables in 2016 and has been matched by $5 million from the Randall B. Terry Charitable Foundation.

College of Education Students Share What They Learned as Counselors of the Leadership Institute for Future Teachers

NC State College of Education students served as counselors and mentors for the inaugural Leadership Institute for Future Teachers (LIFT), a program for students of color and bilingual students held virtually in July. Support from the NC State University Foundation, Belk Foundation and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund helped make the opportunity possible.

Curtis Appointed to USDA Food Safety Advisory Committee

The USDA has appointed NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Patricia Curtis to the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI). Since 2017, Curtis has served as head of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science.

Khan and Dickey Honored for Their Research Achievements

Saad Khan and Michael Dickey of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering recently received important honors for their research achievements. Khan is the INVISTA Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and director of the CBE graduate program. Dickey is the Alcoa Professor and a University Faculty Scholar who has done extensive work mentoring students.

In addition to being an Annable Scholar in the College of Veterinary Medicine class of 2024, Raena Eldridge is the 2020 Arthur Ashe Jr. Female Sports Scholar of the Year. Her commitment to swimming and veterinary medicine has driven her to do the extraordinary, and she looks forward to what's next as she continues her education at NC State.
