Remembering Susan K. Nutter

Former Vice Provost and Director of the NC State University Libraries Susan K. Nutter, who retired in 2017 after a 30-year career as one of NC State’s and the library world’s most dynamic and influential leaders, passed away on March 25. Nutter placed the Libraries at the center of the university's overall success, and her ability to connect with students, faculty, staff, alumni and colleagues was a hallmark of her extraordinary leadership, truly embodying NC State's "Think and Do" spirit.

4-H’ers Help Heal After Hurricane

After hurricanes ravaged North Carolina, 4-H'ers responded in a big way, from taking care of displaced animals to helping distribute food those in need. Supported in part by private donations through the N.C. Cooperative Extension, 4-H is the largest youth organization in the United States.

ZTE’s Blessinger Recognized for Outstanding Extension Service

Jeff Blessinger, extension specialist and Lean Six Sigma program manager for the Zeis Textiles Extension (ZTE) at the Wilson College of Textiles, has received NC State’s Outstanding Extension Service Award in honor of his exceptional extension engagement and economic development activities for the university. Since Blessinger joined ZTE, which was established by a generous gift from Steve Zeis '62 and his wife Frosene, more than 750 students of all ages have gone through the LSS training and saved their companies more $85 million combined.

Mark Baxter Receives Inaugural Distinguished MAC Alumni Award

Mark Baxter, who received his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1996 at the Poole College of Management and his master’s in accounting in 1998 through the Jenkins MAC program, was recognized at the MAC program’s 25th Anniversary Celebration Reception held on April 4. An assurance partner at EY in Raleigh, Baxter is an active, involved alum, serving on the Poole College of Management Board of Advisors, the MAC Board of Advisors, the NC State Executive Education Board, as well as coordinating his firm's relationship with the college and supporting students through the Baxter Family Endowment.

Alumni Profile: DeShawn Brown

As a student, Park Scholarships alumnus DeShawn Brown found himself looking for ways to combine his interest in computer science with his entrepreneurial passion. He formed a study group with two of his classmates, which has now become Lithios, a leading mobile application development firm in the Research Triangle, of which Brown serves as CEO and founder.

Charles Eason was one of the first students to sign up for the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics' pilot program in entrepreneurship. When he graduates this spring, Eason will be one of the program's first success stories. Private support has helped Eason create a mobile shell hatchery for oyster and clams.

The College of Design's 2019 Designlife Gala honored Stephen Hill, an entrepreneur who incorporates his advocacy for the arts, historic preservation and downtown revitalization in his businesses, and alumni Kevin and Myra Kane, who received the Wings on Wings Award for their generous support of the college and the Coastal Dynamics Design Lab.
