Director of the Shelton Leadership Center to Retire

Barbara Mulkey has announced that she will retire effective May 1 after five years of helping fulfill the Shelton Leadership Center’s mission to develop the next generation of values-based leaders. She also has overseen personalized educational and hands-on outreach programs for professionals, college students and pre-college students. A College of Engineering alumna, Mulkey has served in a variety of university volunteer leadership positions, too.

Annual Shelton Leadership Forum Coming Up on Oct. 1

The Shelton Leadership Forum, heading into its 19th year, involves participants from all over North Carolina and surrounding states in a day focused on practical lessons in values-based leadership. This year's theme is Leadership Challenges: The Complexity of Leading Organizations with a Global Mindset. Scheduled keynote speakers include Chuck Robbins, Carla Harris and Anders Sorman-Nilsson.

Shelton Forum to Focus on Ethical Leadership During Difficult Times

Three prominent leaders -- Jim Kouzes, Jim Whitehnurst and Natalie Nixon -- will serve as featured speakers at NC State’s Shelton Leadership Forum this Friday, Nov. 15, at the McKimmon Center. The one-day forum, celebrating its 18th anniversary, also will feature a panel session of small business leaders focusing on highly successful NC State alumni who demonstrate the “think and do” mentality.

Shelton Speaker Series Continues with Owens

The inaugural Shelton Speaker Series, open to the campus community, focuses on how seven NC State alumni have used their university experiences to become leaders in unexpected careers. The next session on Nov. 11 will feature Dr. Jim Owens, a three-time alumnus and former chairman and CEO of Caterpillar Inc., as well as former chair of NC State's Board of Trustees.

Registration Open for This Year’s Shelton Leadership Forum

The forum, a nationally recognized event heading into its 18th successful year, welcomes participants from all over North Carolina and from surrounding states for a day focused on practical lessons in values-based leadership. Networking opportunities are plentiful with an audience of corporate and emerging leaders. This year's keynote speakers include Jim Whitehurst, president and CEO of Red Hat; Natalie Nixon, president of Figure 8 Thinking; and Jim Kouzes, author of the bestseller The Leadership Challenge.

NC State Launches Minor in Global Leadership and Team Decision Making

The minor open to all NC State undergraduates features 12 hours earned abroad during a spring semester program taking place in three European countries and co-taught by an interdisciplinary faculty team from the university and its partner institutions. Debbie Acker, senior associate director for operations and academic programs for the Shelton Leadership Center, led development and partnership-building for the unique minor; philanthropy enables more students to participate.

Latinx Heritage Month Display Conveys Dreams, Stories of Poole College Students

Dreams and Stories – Sueños y Cuentos – showcases reflections about the value gained from their parents and their Latinx heritage from five Poole College of Management students, including Chancellor's Leadership Development Program participant Josue Hernandez. The display is on the third floor of Nelson Hall, near the auditorium.

Registration Is Open for the 17th Annual Shelton Leadership Forum

Registration is open for this year's Shelton Leadership Forum, which has the theme of Leadership Through the Decades: How Our Past Influences Our Future. The 17th annual edition of the forum will take place Nov. 9 and feature speakers that include Jean Davis, Dario Gil, Terry Jones, Janet Ramey, Sepi Saidi, Pam Townsend and Jack Uldrich.
