Personal Statement: Stephen Louis

This fall, wide receiver Stephen Louis will wear the the NC State football team's No. 1 jersey – an annual honor bestowed by head coach Dave Doeren in recognition of qualities like leadership, hard work and being an extraordinary teammate. Louis, who earned his bachelor's degree in parks, recreation and tourism management from the College of Natural Resources and is now a graduate student in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences' youth development and leadership program, shares his story of growing up in Florida on the way to becoming a Wolfpack scholarship student-athlete.

Study Abroad Surpasses Participation and Diversity Goals

More NC State students are gaining invaluable experience through study abroad and private support is part of that equation. Since 2011-12, the Study Abroad Office has awarded nearly $2 million in scholarships to 1,333 students; created 20 new scholarships, including scholarships for underrepresented students; and more than tripled scholarship funding.

Alumna Named Associate Dean at College of Design

Sharon Joines, new associate dean of the College of Design, is a three-time NC State alumna who received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in industrial engineering. As a student, Joines – who has received many honors as a faculty member – was a member of what's now the Caldwell Fellows Program and was a Merit Scholar, a University Scholar and a North Carolina Fellow.

The College of Textiles has named its new class of Centennial Scholars. The Centennial Scholarship program was established by the North Carolina Textile Foundation in 1999 as part of the college's 100th anniversary celebration.

Wolfpack Athletics Program on the Rise

With private donors as an important part of its team, the NC State athletics department ended a historic 2017-18 year by placing 15th in the nation in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings – reaching its organizational goal of Top 25 status for the first time in the program that measures all-around sports excellence. Student-athletes continue to improve their academic performance as well.
