Alum Gives Back to Her Second Home

Alumna Anna Allen's first contribution to the College of Veterinary Medicine was $20.10, in honor of her graduation year. Now well established with a career and a family, she was able to donate $1,000 to the college last year in support of its equine program. Her passion for veterinary medicine is reflected in her commitment to CVM, which includes guest lecturing, serving as a mentor and philanthropy.

A STEP Above: Young Alumna Cassia Lewis ’13

Through participating in the Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP), a residential program for rising high school seniors, second-generation Wilson College of Textiles alumna Cassia Lewis '13 became eligible for — and received — a full-ride, Duke Kimbrell (Parkdale)-sponsored Erlanger Merit scholarship. She now lives on the West Coast, serving as director of business development for fabric manufacturer Swisstex Direct.

Veterans on the Farm

The number of military veterans taking part in the North Carolina Farm School, an annual NC State Extension program that helps new and aspiring growers learn more about agriculture, is on the rise. The program, which has been supported by individual donors and groups like the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, is aimed at increasing sustainable and economically viable farms in the state.

College of Education Celebrates Grand Opening of Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research

On Dec. 3, the College of Education held an opening reception for its Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research, the result of a $10.86 million grant from the John M. Belk Endowment in 2018. With the launch of the center, the College of Education has expanded its ability to support community colleges in three ways: furthering the preparation of future community college presidents, providing ongoing leadership development to community college executives and trustees, and building capacity for evidence-based decision-making and applied research.

Keep Calm and Terrier On

NC State Veterinary Hospital and support from the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo Cancer Treatment Fund have helped Kristi Thompson's terrier mix Nala return to her old self. The experience also inspired Thompson to pursue a new career in canine massage therapy.

Jane Rogers: Supporting Students’ Leadership Potential

Jane Rogers has been named the College of Humanities and Social Sciences 2019 Distinguished Alumna and was recognized at the annual NC State Alumni Association Evening of Stars Gala. She has more than 40 years of experience developing and leading nonprofit, educational, governmental and for-profit organizations. Rogers, a member of the Chancellor’s Circle and the R. Stanhope Pullen Society, also has established a planned gift to support students’ access to international study abroad opportunities and to provide leadership opportunities to students engaged with our state’s social innovation nonprofit sector.

Supporting Global Growth

Alumnus and donor Ralph Edwards has a passion for the impact of study abroad. As an undergraduate in industrial engineering in 1959, he had the chance to intern in Italy. Now, he and his wife give back by supporting the Ralph and Ree Edwards Study Abroad Scholarship within the College of Engineering.
