Saving the Irreplaceable Rowdy

When her Staffordshire terrier Rowdy developed a fast-growing cancerous tumor, Jennifer Beard feared that she might be losing her beloved friend. Thanks to expert treatment at NC State Veterinary Hospital and assistance from the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo Cancer Treatment Fund, things are looking up.

Elijah Bouma-Sims ’21 Helps Secure $100,000 for Research Funding at NC State

Park Scholar Elijah Bouma-Sims ’21 published his first co-authored paper earlier this year, the culmination of an 11-month study on robocalling. First, his paper won the Distinguished Paper Award at the 29th USENIX Security Symposium. Then, it won the first-place Internet Defense Prize, a $100,000 grant that will support future research at NC State.

Senior Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Services Louis Hunt has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2020-21 academic year. During his time with EMAS, Hunt has overseen the development of a wide range of programs and services, including the Goodnight Scholars.

Made in North Carolina: Public and Private Partners Join Forces to Deliver PPE to Health Care Workers Statewide

NC State’s Nonwovens Institute (NWI) announced a new partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC), Freudenberg Performance Materials, UNC Health, the NC Healthcare Association and NC Medical Society to manufacture N95 masks to equip frontline workers across North Carolina with a safe and cost-effective solution. A donation of $450,000 from Blue Cross NC allowed NC State to purchase two mask-molding machines needed to produce effective and reliable N95 respirators locally, as well as to procure materials and supplies used for production.
