Opportunities in Grant Writing and Support

Molly Puente, Ph.D., is a double NC State alum and currently works as a Grants Coordinator in NC State’s Proposal Development Unit. As part of her duties, Puente helps support the development of large-scale, interdisciplinary research proposals, curates grant resources and offers programming around navigating the grants process at large federal research sponsors.

NC State Earns National Top 10 Ranking as a ‘Military Friendly’ School

For the fifth time, NC State has earned a top 10 spot in Military Friendly’s national Military Friendly Schools rankings. Coming in ninth overall, NC State was also one of 162 institutions selected for the “Gold” award status for leading practices, outcomes and effective programs. Donor support for the university’s Military and Veteran Services center helps ensure these programs provide the resources needed for military-affiliated students to make a smooth transition.

Frey Selected for EPA Science Policy Post

NC State engineering professor Chris Frey has been appointed deputy assistant administrator for science policy in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Research and Development. The office is the scientific research arm of EPA; its work informs EPA decisions and supports the emerging needs of EPA stakeholders, including state, tribal and community partners. Frey is the Glenn E. and Phyllis J. Futrell Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering.

Looking Back and Moving Forward

2020 will be a year long-remembered by NC State faculty, staff and students. Read about some of the lessons learned, including how Jeff Braden, retiring soon as dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, has asked his team to commit to concrete actions to reduce or eliminate racism and increase the college’s ability to provide opportunity and increase social justice. Among other actions, Braden has set a goal of raising $1 million by June 30, 2021, to provide high-impact, life-changing experiences to all CHASS students — especially those from under-represented groups.

Will Goodson’s two-year gift provides Poole College faculty and students with 24/7 access to Barron’s, a leading financial portal and magazine, in hopes of spurring financial education, enabling students to learn from investing’s best minds and fostering their professional growth. The Poole College of Management is now one of only 95 schools to have this unique access.

Inaugural Cohort of Impact Scholars Announced

Last month, the Office of Outreach and Engagement announced the inaugural cohort of Impact Scholars as part of its Strengthening the Impact of Research program. The 12 Impact Scholars represent nine colleges and two research institutes, bringing a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience to the group.

College of Design to Receive Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

The $40,000 grant will help fund projects benefiting the visually impaired at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind. The project scope includes improving navigation tools available to the students, resulting in an enhanced built environment, improved spatial clarity and increased independence.
