Lisa LaBarbera-Mascote to Lead Campus Community Centers

Lisa LaBarbera-Mascote is the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity’s new senior director of campus community centers. She will provide leadership for all four centers, a role she has been serving in as interim since fall 2021. LaBarbera-Mascote joined NC State in 2006. In addition to leadership and advocacy, she excelled in fundraising efforts, including individual campaigns and events such as the Survivor Fund through the intentional foregrounding of multiple separate funding drives within the Women’s Center.

Formally founded in 2007, the GLBT Center’s stated mission is to engage, develop and empower members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (GLBTQ) communities and their allies. Day of Giving: Edgar Mancia Garcia ’20

For Edgar Mancia Garcia ’20, a Salvadorian Guatemalan student from Durham, North Carolina, coming to a PWI was a big culture shock. Fortunately, Garcia was able to find a community and form meaningful bonds with fellow NC State students, with the help of Multicultural Student Affairs, before his first semester even began.

Day of Giving: Kali Fillhart ’21

The stars aligned for Kali Fillhart ’21, a Virginia native studying anthropology and creative writing, when she came to NC State and developed her passion for activism and feminism. Fillhart’s passions have led her to work as a poll worker for the primary and general elections, learn about the intersection of astrology and feminism at the Portland School of Astrology during a gap year, volunteer as an interpersonal violence prevention peer educator with The Movement and work as a programming intern for the Women’s Center.
