Day of Giving: Kali Fillhart ’21

The stars aligned for Kali Fillhart ’21, a Virginia native studying anthropology and creative writing, when she came to NC State and developed her passion for activism and feminism. Fillhart’s passions have led her to work as a poll worker for the primary and general elections, learn about the intersection of astrology and feminism at the Portland School of Astrology during a gap year, volunteer as an interpersonal violence prevention peer educator with The Movement and work as a programming intern for the Women’s Center.

Diversity Seminar Series to Address Inequities in Natural Resources

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at NC State’s College of Natural Resources is launching a virtual seminar series to address the discrimination and systemic inequalities faced by marginalized individuals in fields related to natural resources. Funded by the Duke Energy Foundation, the Diversity, Inclusion and Racial Equity (DIRE) Dialog seminar series aims to create a lasting impact within the college community that brings about a change-culture to further promote a climate of equity, inclusion and belonging.

NC State Day of Giving Results Show Strength of the Pack

In challenging times, NC State supporters put the university’s special fall Day of Giving theme of “stronger as a Pack” into action, with real-time numbers showing 8,230 gifts totaling $23,223,425 — an increase of nearly $10 million from 2019’s numbers. Wolfpack members in all 50 states generously contributed to the effort.

Special Day of Giving to Support Diversity and Inclusion

The theme for September's special Day of Giving fall event is “Stronger as a Pack,” aimed toward making sure everyone can adapt in difficult circumstances while meeting urgent and ongoing needs, expanding opportunity and providing meaningful space for all. One of the day's four focus areas, the Diversity and Equity Fund provides support for programs and initiatives of the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, which includes the Campus Community Centers, Bias Impact Response Team, Equal Opportunity and Equity and Inclusive Excellence and Strategic Practice.

Alum Tyler Allen Reflects on His Time with Multicultural Student Affairs

Tyler Allen '14, '18 was a chancellor's aide, president of the Graduate Student Association, a Fraternity and Sorority Life resident director and a Three-Minute Thesis Winner during his time earning two degrees at NC State. Allen, named one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 in 2018, made one of his first university connections via his work-study job at Multicultural Student Affairs. He believes that investing in centers like this one through the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity represents an investment in the entire campus community.

In the 20th anniversary year of the Molly Hays Glander Fund, the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity is taking a look back at some of the people who have helped shape the programs NC State has in place to support survivors of interpersonal violence. Rhonda Sutton was an early leader of the Women’s Center who contributed to its current strengths in advocacy, programming and support for survivors.
