2020 Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professors Named

Sarah J. Carrier, Elizabeth C. Dickey, Ryan E. Emanuel and Jorge A. Piedrahita were recently recognized by the NC State Alumni Association for their outstanding graduate-level teaching. Each of them received a $4,000 award as part of the honor.

North Carolina Textile Foundation Fellowship recipient and Graduate School student Samit Chakraborty has traveled the world in search of a quality textiles education. That quest eventually led him to the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State, where he is currently completing his doctorate.

Understanding Neurodiversity

Dr. Monique Colclough is a postdoctoral scholar researching the best ways to support students who have autism, as institutions rethink how student success is defined and measured. She finds that her work is a natural fit with the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research, established at NC State's College of Education with a $10.86 million grant from the John M. Belk Endowment.

Big Cats in the Backyard: Master’s Research Reveals Important Finding About Human-Leopard Interactions

Supported in part by a University Graduate Fellowship, Matt Snider recently earned a master's degree from NC State's College of Natural Resources. The fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology major has become a bit of an expert at tracking one of nature's most elusive creatures: the leopard. Snider's thesis revealed important information about how humans are impacting wildlife populations.

Graduation to Vocation: Researching the Impact of Human Population Density on Leopards

Matt Snider recently completed a master's degree in fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology at NC State's College of Natural Resources. Supported in part by a University Graduate Fellowship, Snider says CNR allowed him to develop his advanced skill sets in statistics, modeling and science writing, while fostering a strong attitude of collaboration.

Graduation to Vocation: Applying Research in Tree Water Usage to Real-World Issues

Andrea Medenblik, recipient of a Graduate Research Fellowship, just earned a master's degree from the College of Natural Resources and will be working as a hydrologist at the U.S. Geological Survey Center in Raleigh. She says CNR prepared her by the future through its diverse curriculum, the infrastructure to perform research, and opportunities to engage with faculty and peers.

3MT Winner Cipriani Has Many Talents

Textiles master's student Ciera Cipriani is always busy, but doing too much hasn't slowed her down. The University Honors Program alum recently won NC State's fourth annual Three Minute Thesis contest and traveled to Tennessee in February for a regional 3MT competition. Cipriani is now focused on her research, which involves figuring out the chemical reactions that cause dyed fabrics to fade.

Former University Scholar Veronica Catete has always loved computers, and she has been sharing that love with under-served groups for years. Working on a joint initiative between NC State's computer science department and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, Catete is working to help integrate computing into K-12 STEM courses by training teachers to use computational thinking activities in their classrooms.
