NC State Ranks No. 11 Nationwide for Undergraduate Entrepreneurship

Bolstered by generous philanthropic support that created initiatives such as the Andrews Launch Accelerator, the Miller Fellows, the Albright Entrepreneur Village and a number of endowed distinguished professorships, NC State has been ranked by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine as a top undergraduate school for entrepreneurship studies.

Centennial Campus Bee Apiary: Partnerships for a Sustainable Future

Numerous sponsors helped launch the Centennial Campus apiary last year, and it continues to thrive thanks to alumna and Bee Downtown CEO Leigh-Kathryn Bonner and others. More than 150,000 honeybees have produced about 200 pounds of honey, and Bonner says NC State's focus on sustainability is one of the reasons the apiary has been successful.

Mentor Support: A Key Takeaway for 2018 Andrews Launch Accelerator Participants

Teams in the 2018 Andrews Launch Accelerator program and the Dr. Thomas Kenan Miller III Fellows Program recently participated in the Andrews Launch Accelator pitch night. Both programs provide critical mentorship support and fresh perspective to student startup teams and are made possible through the philanthropy of NC State alumni, including Chip and Lyn Andrews, Billy Nussey and Chris Evans.

Capturing the Think and Do Spirit: NC State Entrepreneurship Reports on Successful First Year

NC State's Entrepreneurship alliance accomplished quite a bit in 2017-18, from the launch of its virtual home to its inclusion in the university's implementation plan for the Pathway to the Future strategic vision. The program is working on new initiatives to enhance co-curricular support through hands-on learning opportunities.

Using Smart Spaces

A group of NC State entrepreneurs has launched Atomo, a startup company leveraging indoor spatial intelligence to save energy and improve the indoor experience. The student-alumni group includes two Park Scholars and has benefited from the Andrews Launch Accelerator, Entrepreneurship Garage, Miller Fellows and other programs with private support.

Entrepreneurship in Action: Miller Fellows to Exhibit at Entrepalooza

The 2018 Miller Fellows class will be among exhibitors at NC State's Entrepalooza event Sept. 13. Ventures include a new way to speed up the aging process of alcohol, a travel solution to prevent soap spills, a spatial intelligence platform, a cryptocurrency trading operation, a solution to optimize food distribution and an app that makes workouts more engaging.

Social Innovator Leigh-Kathryn Bonner

There is plenty of buzz about Miller Fellow Leigh-Kathryn Bonner. The 2015 NC State graduate started Bee Downtown as a student and has since installed beehives at more than 50 companies as a way to save honey bee populations. In a College of Humanities and Social Sciences "How I Think and Do" video, Bonner talks about how her international studies degree informed her business plans and about the boost she got from across campus as she created and grew her “bees-ness.”

Seven young innovators have been chosen as 2018 Miller Fellows. The program (which also honors Dr. Tom Miller, senior vice provost for academic outreach and entrepreneurship) provides financial support and other opportunities to NC State student entrepreneurs who commit to developing their startups full-time in the six months following graduation.

Four Startup Teams Begin Andrews Launch Accelerator Program

On May 14, four teams of NC State student entrepreneurs began a 15-week program designed to help them successfully launch their startup ventures. They were selected from more than 25 applicants for the 2018 Andrews Launch Accelerator Program, which was made possible through a gift from Lyn and Chip Andrews.
