NC State Continues to Climb in National Rankings

NC State gains ground in the 2021 U.S. News ranking of America's best colleges. The university has moved up nine spots in the past five years, driven largely by student success. In another metric, the percentage of alumni providing financial support to the institution ticked up to 10.7%.

Scholarship Endowment Celebrates Education’s Everlasting Impact

Jennifer Smith and her husband, Tom, have established the Richard V. Hodges Scholarship Endowment at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in memory of her father. In addition to recognizing the importance her father placed on education, the scholarship reflects Smith’s commitment to animal welfare as a longtime advocate for animal rescue organizations.

Alumna Makes Lead Gift to Help Establish Endowment Honoring Tharp

NC State's Department of Computer Science recently announced efforts to establish the Dr. Alan L. Tharp Undergraduate Innovation Endowment in honor of Tharp, previous department chair and Alumni Distinguished Professor. The proposed endowment will provide programmatic funds, with a preference toward supporting and encouraging undergraduate research and innovation. The fundraising effort was seeded by a $12,000 gift from computer science alumna Marcia G. McLawhorn (B.S. ‘70).

Agriculture Loses Longtime Advocate Weathington

Dan Weathington, a longtime friend of NC State's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and a key supporter of the North Carolina Plant Sciences Initiative, passed away Aug. 3. Weathington was a true ambassador and advocate for North Carolina agriculture, said CALS Dean Richard Linton.
