Stefanski Named Head of Statistics

Leonard “Len” Stefanski, a longtime NC State professor and prominent statistician, has been named the new head of the university’s Department of Statistics. In this role, Stefanski, the R.A. Fisher Distinguished Professor of Statistics, oversees academic, administrative and budgetary matters for around 400 students and 42 faculty.

NC State Physicist Elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

John Thomas, the John S. Risley Distinguished Professor in NC State's Department of Physics, received one of the nation’s most prestigious scientific honors “for groundbreaking contributions to the study of ultra-cold atomic Fermi gases, in particular measurements of the equation of state and of transport properties." He is among 396 scientists to be honored this year by AAAS.

Almasy Honored as Top Goodnight Scholar

Katie Almasy was honored by the Goodnight Scholars Program for academic achievement, dedication to STEM education and commitment to leadership. The recipient of other accolades including the Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship and G.H. Satterfield Scholarship, she will soon begin work on a graduate research fellowship in chemical biology at Vanderbilt University.

NC State Has its First Newman Fellow

Ashle Page, a Goodnight Scholar and Centennial Scholar, lead ambassador for the Institute for Emerging Issues and graduating senior in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, was named a Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow. She will continue to focus on technology and policy.
