EPA Disbanded This Panel of Clean-Air Experts – They’re Meeting Again Anyway

After #SetTheExpectation, What’s Next?

The impact of hearing activist and educator Brenda Tracy’s story last spring inspired student-athletes James Smith-Williams and Vinnie Durand to join the fight against interpersonal violence and to invite Tracy back to NC State recently for #SetTheExpectation games in football and men's soccer. Giving back is one way to continue the impact and the momentum of Tracy's return visit. Support for the NC State Survivor Fund covers medical care, counseling, legal assistance and other expenses for those who have experienced interpersonal violence.

A Big Break for Little Bo

Ashley White is a recent graduate of East Carolina University, but her love for NC State is growing as Bo, her 10-year-old Maltese, is treated for bladder cancer by NC State Veterinary Hospital's compassionate team of experts. The cost of Bo's care is supported by the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo Cancer Treatment Fund, which helps pet owners focus on their pet's health rather than finances.

$2 Million Grant from North Carolina Nonprofit Aids Study of Financial Health in Retirement

The Institute of Consumer Money Management (ICMM), a North Carolina-based nonprofit, announced a $2 million grant to three leading universities for studying the financial health of low- and moderate-income Americans who are near or in retirement. Robert Clark, professor at Poole College of Management, will be the principal investigator for the grant at NC State, focusing on understanding the changes in the standard of living for these families as they enter retirement and whether income declines can be moderated by financial literacy initiatives.

Former NC State Professor Establishes Forest Biomaterials Lecture

Richard Thomas — an alumnus, former professor and department head in the College of Natural Resources — has generously donated $100,000 to establish an annual lecture in forest biomaterials. Expected to launch in 2021, the Dr. Richard J. and Margaret M. Thomas Endowed Lecture will highlight notable research from across the country or world.

A Helping Hand for Underdogs

Stacey Snyder '95 has spent more than 20 years as helping animals facing challenges through volunteering at shelters and nonprofit rescue organizations. Now she is channeling that passion into a scholarship: the Robert Snyder, Cheryl Sumrell Snyder, and Stacey Snyder Scholarship Endowment, which will help NC State students who have faced some challenges of their own to pursue their veterinary dreams — especially if their dreams include serving the needs of rescue animals.

Robison-Greene is the Libraries’ First Tom Regan Visiting Research Fellow

NC State University Libraries has awarded the first annual Tom Regan Visiting Research Fellowship to Rachel Robison-Greene, a postdoctoral fellow at Utah State University researching the in-vitro meat revolution. Intended to promote scholarly research in animal rights, the fellowship was established through the generosity of the Culture & Animals Foundation (CAF) in memory of scholar, author and former NC State philosophy faculty member Tom Regan.
