A ‘Dream Come True’ Supported by Day of Giving

Meredith Martinez left NC State in 2017 as a proud alumna of the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE), but she always knew she wasn’t saying goodbye forever. Martinez, who is now an assistant teaching professor and the coordinator of undergraduate advising for CCEE, was hired last year thanks to gifts made on Day of Giving.

Chornobyl Dogs’ Genetic Differences Not Due to Mutation

Radiation-induced mutation is unlikely to have induced genetic differences between dog populations in Chornobyl City and the nearby Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, according to a new study in PLOS ONE from NC State and Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Matthew Breen, Oscar J. Fletcher Distinguished Professor of Comparative Oncology Genetics at NC State, is one of the study’s authors.

Park Scholarships Names Semifinalists for the Park Class of 2029

Candidates were selected from an exceptionally talented pool of more than 2,553 based on their outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service and character. Video interviews will be conducted with the semifinalists on Jan. 18, with semifinalists to be notified of their status in late January.

James Buzzard Leadership Development Program Finds Success in Its Inaugural Year

The College of Natural Resources strives to train the leaders of tomorrow, and this has been exemplified through one of its newest initiatives: the James Buzzard Leadership Development Program. The program was established through a gift to the college by the late James “Jim” Buzzard, a 1976 pulp and paper technology alumnus and the former executive vice president of MeadWestvaco Corporation.
