Poole Faculty Member Elected to Academy Leadership Role

Bradley Kirkman, General (Ret.) H. Hugh Shelton Distinguished Professor of Leadership at the Poole College of Management, has benefited from his membership in the Academy of Management for nearly 30 years. Now, he has been named to the leadership track of the academy’s Organizational Behavior Division.

Entrepreneurship Selects Five New Alumni for the 2021 Miller Fellowship

The Dr. Thomas Kenan Miller II Fellows Program supports newly graduated entrepreneurs who wish to pursue their venture full-time after graduation with resources and a monthly stipend. The graduates selected for this year’s cohort represent five university colleges and four unique startups, and two are also Park Scholars.

Graduation to Vocation: Engineering Paper Mill Processes

Aldo De Leon Resendiz graduated in May 2021 with degrees in paper science and engineering and chemical engineering, along with being a Goodnight Scholar, University Scholar and member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Now an NC State alumnus, De Leon will work for International Paper as a REACH (Recruit, Engage, Align College Hires) engineer.

Honoring Our Piano Pioneers

When an anonymous donor made a generous gift to endow a new piano performance scholarship in the Department of Music, they left it up to the department to name the fund. Former department head Bob Petters, who has taught in the music department since 1976, recommended that the scholarship be named for two women who each played a pivotal role in developing the piano program at NC State — Phyllis Vogel and Marilyn Lynch.

With $7.25 Million Grant From Anonymous Trust, College of Education to Launch Transformational Scholarships Program

NC State’s College of Education has received a $7.25 million charitable grant from the Anonymous Trust to establish the Transformational Scholarships Program and prepare 100 teachers for counties in eastern North Carolina with fewer resources but greater needs. This is the largest recorded gift the College of Education has received for student scholarships and among the largest of its kind ever awarded to any college of education in North Carolina to prepare teachers.

Building an Entryway to Knowledge

As a third-generation alumnus of NC State, Jim Whitehurst ’87 has been part of the Wolfpack community since he can remember. Now, the Whitehurst family and employees of Coastal AgroBusiness Inc., for which Jim serves as president and CEO, have made a gift to name the seminar room in the groundbreaking NC Plant Sciences Building. The building will serve as the home for the NC Plant Sciences Initiative: a massive new research effort that brings together crop scientists, economists, engineers, data scientists and experts from other disciplines to solve the world’s grandest challenges in agriculture.
