Rose Amburose ’25 Receives the Equity for Women Award

Park Scholar Rose Amburose was recently awarded the Equity for Women Award (Students) as part of the Equity for Women Awards. The Equity for Women Award is sponsored by NC State’s Council on the Status of Women, which is a faculty- and staff-led university standing committee, and recognizes one award winner in four categories (Faculty, Staff, Students and Groups) for their outstanding dedication to establishing equity for women at NC State.

Day in the Life of a Centennial Scholar: Sarah Jarrell

When Sarah Jarrell thinks about her Centennial Scholarship and the difference it’s had on her college career, she prefers to use words like “life-changing” and “one-of-a-kind.” As a graduate student in the master of textiles program, Jarrell is proud to be working toward her second degree from the Wilson College of Textiles after graduating last December with a bachelor’s degree in fashion and textile design.

Catch Up With a Libraries Student Scholarship Awardee: Lena Jin

The NC State University Libraries awards a number of part-scholarships every year to outstanding Libraries student workers as part of its efforts to support student success and affordability. Lena Jin, a senior psychology major who works in the Libraries’ Access Services department, is one of those recipients.

Leafing Through History: Mining DNA Clues From Centuries-Old Manuscripts

Since early 2021, an intercollege, interdisciplinary team of NC State researchers including Oscar J. Fletcher Distinguished Professor of Comparative Oncology Genetics Matthew Breen has been using modern scientific techniques to mine genetic clues from old manuscripts. The team is supported by $25,000 in Research and Innovation Seed Funding from the university and has analyzed DNA from 91 parchment manuscripts so far in a collaborative project that links the humanities and the sciences.

Grant Will Create New Study-Abroad Opportunities for TRIO Students

A recent gift from the Goodwin Meissner Family Foundation makes studying abroad more feasible and accessible for students in NC State’s TRIO programs. The grant will help TRIO develop a summer experience that exposes students to a different global and cultural context not ordinarily accessible.

The Libraries’ Donors & Scholars Event Connects the Legacies of Students and Donors

The NC State University Libraries student scholarship awardees and scholarship donors gathered in the Hunt Library’s Duke Energy Hall for a Donors & Scholars reception on Feb. 23. Scholarship recipients Callie McAdoo ‘23 and Laura Alvarez ‘23 spoke about what the Libraries — and its donors’ support — has meant to them.

Genzer to Receive the 2023 SPSJ International Award

Jan Genzer has been selected to receive the 2023 International Award from the Society of Polymer Science, Japan (SPSJ) — a nonprofit mainly composed of polymer scientists, engineers and managers in academia, industries and governmental institutions. Genzer is an S. Frank & Doris Culberson Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) and has served as the CBE Associate Department Head since 2007.
