Extraordinary Difference: Meriem Laroussi

MERIEM LAROUSSI

On Dec. 31, 2021, NC State’s five-year Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign came to an incredibly successful close. Alumni, friends, employees and more helped propel the university well past its goal of $1.6 billion for a grand total of $2,103,932,120. These new funds will help drive NC State’s land-grant mission of creating economic, societal and intellectual prosperity for all, by both reaffirming its commitment to broad educational opportunity and powering its cutting-edge, hands-on innovation as North Carolina’s leading science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) university.

Meriem Laroussi ’22 is one of the many Pack members who have been benefited by this historic fundraising effort. Laroussi came to NC State to break the mold and learn like only she could. Through support from the Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign, she did just that — and more — as a Fitts Scholar in Fitts-Woolard Hall, an extraordinary new place on Centennial Campus that was also made possible by the campaign.

“I wrote this essay about wanting to learn and helping other people learn better as an industrial engineer, and you awarded me a scholarship” Laroussi said of NC State and the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. “So, you think there is more to me than just being an engineer, and you realize the value in that. So, that really concreted, like, this is the right department for me.”
