Dogwood Health Trust Pledges $2 Million To Support the Institute for Emerging Issues’ Effort To Increase Digital Literacy and Access Across North Carolina

NC State’s Institute for Emerging Issues has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Dogwood Health Trust in support of the Building a New Digital Economy in NC (BAND-NC) program. The grant will support community-based efforts to increase the number of people with internet access in their homes in North Carolina’s 18 westernmost counties and the Qualla Boundary.

Libraries Receives Pentair Foundation Grant

The NC State University Libraries is pleased to announce that it is a 2021 grant recipient from the Pentair Foundation. The $10,000 award will support the ongoing Pentair Fellows program, through which graduate student fellows develop a curriculum for workshops on STEM tools and technologies.

Meet Our Darla Buchanan Scholarship Recipients

An anonymous Raleigh couple’s gift to the NC State College of Education led to the creation of the Darla Buchanan Scholarship, designed to address the urgent need for a more diverse teaching and administration staff in North Carolina and beyond. Thanks to a $20,000 gift from the couple, as well as the 75 additional donors who have added their support to the scholarship, the College of Education was able to award three Darla Buchanan Scholarships this fall.

A lifelong Wolfpack fan with bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from NC State, Katie Maloney mentors students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences. She also supports the college as a guest speaker, adjunct faculty member, donor and much more, which led to her being recognized as one of its 2021 Outstanding Alumni.

Transforming Research in Arabic-Based Languages

How can researchers — and families — search through millions of Arabic documents that span the sixth to the 20th centuries? Digitizing them is the first step, and with support from a $476,483 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the largest NEH grant to NC State to date, researchers at the Moise A. Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies are taking on that challenge.
