Jakub Sciora Is Always up for a Challenge

Centennial Scholar Jakub Sciora ’21 ’22 might be one of NC State’s most engaged students, participating in an accelerated bachelor’s/master’s program in the Wilson College of Textiles while serving in several clubs and organizations, among many other pursuits. Soon, he’ll be taking that “Think and Do” spirit to one of the nation’s premier public industrial materials companies as he begins an exciting new career.

Taylor Rowland ’22 Receives Scholarship Honoring Education Professor

Pat McKee and Julie Russo combined their passions for Wolfpack athletics and the field of education through the creation of an endowed scholarship to benefit a College of Education student-athlete. The scholarship is named in honor of Valerie Faulkner, a teaching professor in the College of Education, and Taylor Rowland ’22, a senior elementary education major on the Wolfpack volleyball team, was recently named the first recipient.

Former Department Head E. Downey Brill Jr. Initiates Program To Establish Named Endowed Graduate Awards

Dr. Brill served as the head of the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) from 1988 to 2005 and retired from the department in 2019. Current Head Dr. Morton Barlaz has been working with Downey over the past 18 months to create a program that will initiate and incentivize the establishment of endowed graduate awards, enabling CCEE to offer multiyear supplemental awards to graduate students.

Study of African American Language Wins Prestigious Linguistics Award

A book documenting the results of a groundbreaking 20-year study led by Walt Wolfram, William C. Friday Distinguished University Professor in the Department of English, has won the award for book of the year from the Linguistic Society of America. The book, titled “African American Language: Language Development from Infancy to Adulthood,” received the society’s Leonard Bloomfield Book Award for 2022.
