An Extraordinary Next Step: Announcing a New Scholarship Fund

The following is an email sent to the NC State community from Chancellor Randy Woodson on February 17, 2020. In it, Chancellor Woodson announces a new giving opportunity in the university’s Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign — the Extraordinary Opportunity Scholarship Initiative.

Dear friends,

As chancellor of this great university, I meet so many wonderful students each day. I learn what brought them to NC State, what they enjoy about being here and what their dreams are for the future. They are tomorrow’s leaders, and I am always inspired and invigorated by our conversations.

Sometimes, though, when I talk to students, they tell me the hardships they faced just getting to NC State or how difficult it is to stay enrolled. They worry about affording supplies for class, balancing a prescription with buying groceries or finding enough time to study between working as many hours as possible to get by.

These students are also tomorrow’s leaders. But when the gap between their financial need and what we can offer in aid is too large, it becomes increasingly difficult for too many of our students to achieve their potential.

Every student deserves an extraordinary opportunity.

Through the Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign, we are uniquely positioned to keep NC State accessible to students from every corner of North Carolina — now and for years to come.

I am excited to announce the launch of the Extraordinary Opportunity Scholarship. This initiative will empower us to offer more need-based scholarships to students in every college and major, ensuring no member of the Pack is left behind.

Together, we can open doors, fulfill our promise of access and give every student the chance to think beyond boundaries and do the extraordinary at NC State.

Sincerely,

Randy Woodson
Chancellor
