From Grief to Hope

Steven Somers BS '09, MS '10 passed away in 2018 shortly after a devastating brain tumor diagnosis. His family has chosen to honor his life and his experiences at NC State by creating the Steven Grant Somers Endowment to support the Counseling Center, which was instrumental in his journey as a student.

2020 Princeton Review Rankings Reflect Efforts to Unite, Advance Entrepreneurship Across Campus

Recognition in the 2020 Princeton Review rankings in entrepreneurship highlights the investment NC State, with donor support, is making in entrepreneurship across campus. The university ranked 10th in the country for undergraduate entrepreneurship and 21st for graduate programs. The Princeton Review collects upwards of 60 self-reported data points to establish a full perspective as to what entrepreneurship on campus looks like from the student and faculty perspectives, as well as how both groups engage in off-campus events such as competitions.

Meentemeyer Named Goodnight Distinguished Professor of Geospatial Analytics

NC State’s College of Natural Resources announced that Ross K. Meentemeyer, director of the Center for Geospatial Analytics, has been appointed the Goodnight Distinguished Professor of Geospatial Analytics. Meentemeyer is a foundational member of the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program’s geospatial analytics faculty cluster and a faculty member in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources. The professorship was made possible by a gift from longtime university supporters Jim and Ann Goodnight.

Morris Named William T. Kretzer Distinguished Professor

Irwin Morris, executive director of NC State’s School of Public and International Affairs, has been named William T. Kretzer Distinguished Professor. Established in 1999, the professorship helps the College of Humanities and Social Sciences maintain a position of national excellence and successfully compete with other universities for outstanding scholars. It is made possible through the generosity of Jim and Ann Goodnight and the C.D. Spangler Foundation.

NC State Jenkins MBA Announces 2020 McLauchlan Leadership Fellows

NC State's Jenkins MBA Program has named its McLauchlan Fellows for spring 2020 semester. These students will take part in the McLauchlan Leadership Series, a program designed to provide graduate-level leadership education through experiential learning. A generous 2015 gift from Russ and Cara McLauchlan has empowered more than 100 students to participate in the initiative.

Lonnie Poole Golf Course Honored for Sustainability Efforts

The North Carolina Golf Course Operator’s Association’s Sustainability Award recognizes the ability to incorporate sustainability and environmental stewardship into operating practices. NC State's Lonnie Poole Golf Course, the 2019 honoree, is one of only two college golf courses designated as a Certified Silver Audubon International Signature Sanctuary. Not only does the course utilize environmental guidelines, it was built to meet them.
