Extraordinary Difference: Ryan Unger

As an RA, Ryan Unger ’20 was always helping others, but when COVID-19 sent students home in March 2020, Ryan found himself in need of help. After graduating, he made a gift to the same fund that he had benefited from, bringing his story full circle as part of NC State’s Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign.

Facing the Future With Confidence

Thanks to tremendous support from the Pack, NC State has raised more than $100,000 for the Student Emergency Fund via the sale of university-branded face coverings.

NC State Helps Students Displaced by Fire

The university is working to help 77 students find housing and other resources following a fire at the Village Greens Apartments. The donor-supported Student Emergency Fund and Feed the Pack Food Pantry are the best way for faculty, staff, alumni and community residents to help those displaced by the fire and all students in need.

Day of Giving Raises Over $1 Million for Student Emergency Fund

The Student Emergency Fund provides microgrants to help students pay for unexpected expenses related to housing, food, medical bills and technology. The program has been especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, with many experiencing sudden job loss and adjusting to remote education. Thanks to donor support on NC State Day of Giving: Stronger as a Pack, the fund is in a better position to help more students through financial challenges now and in the future.

NC State Day of Giving Results Show Strength of the Pack

In challenging times, NC State supporters put the university’s special fall Day of Giving theme of “stronger as a Pack” into action, with real-time numbers showing 8,230 gifts totaling $23,223,425 — an increase of nearly $10 million from 2019’s numbers. Wolfpack members in all 50 states generously contributed to the effort.

Faculty and Staff Continue to Support Student Emergency Fund

What began as a pre-meeting conversation between Katharine Stewart, vice provost for faculty affairs, and NC State's associate deans for academic affairs turned into an intercollege competition benefiting students. Challenged by their associate deans, faculty and staff rallied to raise more than $93,000 for the Student Emergency Fund -- far exceeding their $25,000 goal.

As face coverings become a common response to COVID-19, requests for NC State styles have been pouring in from fans. To that end, Wolfpack Outfitters — the official NC State store — has debuted a line of licensed face masks, with partial proceeds benefiting the Student Emergency Fund.
