A Coffee Shop with a Purpose

Four Park Scholars in the Class of 2021 have started pop-up shop 321 Coffee, staffed by individuals with intellectual and developmental disorders. According to Lindsay Wrege, CEO, the organization is meant "to provide meaningful volunteer work experience for adults with special needs, as well as a space for the NC State and Raleigh [populace] to interact with the special-needs community."

Park Scholar Lands Job with the Federal Reserve

Madeline Finnegan will continue her involvement with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York full-time after she graduates in May. Last summer, the NC State Park Scholar worked there as a summer research analyst, contributing as part of the financial intermediation team.

New Ag Ed Scholarship Honors Retired Teacher

A new scholarship offered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences will help juniors and seniors who want to be agricultural teachers but face financial or other obstacles. The scholarship was established by CALS alumnus Larry Coats and honors Fred William Manley, a 1959 graduate who devoted 41 years of his life to teaching.

Osborne Scholarship Gives Grad Students Freedom to Focus

Five graduate students in the College of Textiles were recently awarded the Gordon and Marjorie Osborne Scholarship. Established by a gift from the Gordon and Marjorie Osborne Foundation, the scholarship helps recruit a competitive and diverse group of grad students – and helps recipients focus on their studies instead of worrying about how to make ends meet.

Park Scholar Dani Winter loves when it rains on campus, because more rain means more data. Since last summer, Winter and fellow NC State student Bryan Maxwell have been using an on-campus research site to evaluate whether floating islands of plants can improve stormwater quality.
