Conservation Pioneer: CALS Philanthropist William Stevens

The late philanthropist and conservationist William Stevens and his wife, Emily Inscoe Stevens, have helped hundreds of students attend NC State's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences through a scholarship they established in 1982. The fund currently supports 12-15 students a year.

Science Olympiad Partnerships Shape STEM Education

NC State students like Goodnight Scholars Kate Wenger and Madeline Yun spend countless hours inspiring young Science Olympiad participants as they develop skills and solve problems in events that integrate biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology. The university houses North Carolina’s Science Olympiad program, and for good reason.

sPark: A Park Scholarships Symposium

Students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and selection committee members met at the StateView Hotel on NC State’s Centennial Campus earlier in April for sPark 2018 — the Park Scholarships' second biannual leadership and networking symposium. The weekend exemplifying the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service and character, and brought together individuals from all stages of life and career.

Developing Wisdom for Med School: Tin Phan

Tin Phan is a Goodnight Scholar who volunteers for multiple nonprofit organizations, and serves on student councils for global health and for Operation Smile — while working toward a career goal of practicing medicine in refugee and immigrant populations.

Dani Winter, a biological and agricultural engineering major, is among 2,000 students nationwide named as 2018 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellows. She credits the Park Scholars Program and NC State with helping her become an "exceptional scholar, leader and public servant."

Ashley Lawson, a Park Scholar and senior majoring mathematics education and mathematics, has been named as one of 59 recipients of the prestigious Truman Scholarship, which invests in the potential of individuals committed to public service leadership. She is NC State's 10th Truman Scholar.

Recipients of Chancellor’s Study Abroad Scholarships Honored

NC State's Study Abroad Office recently honored 46 recipients of the highly competitive Chancellor’s Study Abroad Scholarship, supported by the University’s Greatest Needs Fund. The program targets students from categories underrepresented in study abroad, including minority, first-generation and male students, and students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related majors. The 2017-18 recipients represent 26 majors from eight colleges. and they studied in 26 countries.
