How Do You Honor a Dean? With a CeleBraden

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences took a cue from Dean Jeff Braden in deciding how to celebrate his 13-year legacy of leadership: make it fun, and make it matter. CeleBraden activities culminated in 695 pounds of food and $3,676 in donations to support one of the outgoing dean’s priorities, NC State’s Feed the Pack Pantry.

NC State Helps Students Displaced by Fire

The university is working to help 77 students find housing and other resources following a fire at the Village Greens Apartments. The donor-supported Student Emergency Fund and Feed the Pack Food Pantry are the best way for faculty, staff, alumni and community residents to help those displaced by the fire and all students in need.

Honoring the Class of 2020: Jayna Lennon

While serving on Student Government as a first-year senator, Park Scholar and Mathews Medalist Jayna Lennon saw the need for addressing food insecurity. She has served as executive director of Feed the Pack, an organization that addresses food insecurity, and as a mental health ambassador in the campus Counseling Center, challenging mental health stigmas that include those surrounding eating disorders.

Meet the 2020 Mathews Medal Winners

NC State's highest nonacademic distinction for students, the Mathews Medal, recognizes graduating seniors who will leave the university a better place because of their service, commitment and leadership. This year's medalists are Resident Adviser Council founder Kevin Hogan, Alumni Association Student Ambassador Program president Mary Kate Morgan, NC State's NAACP chapter president Malasia McClendon and Feed the Pack executive director Jayna Lennon.

COVID-19 Impacts First-Generation Students

Campus changes to mitigate the spread of coronavirus have impacted students everywhere, but many first-generation students face added obstacles. Joselyn Ramirez-Mendoza, a junior at NC State, is one such student adjusting to a new normal. She hopes others will take advantage of resources the university offers such as Feed the Pack food pantry, the Student Emergency Fund, the Libraries and the Counseling Center.
