NC State Names New Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine

Kate Meurs has been named dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine following a nationwide search. Her appointment becomes effective April 1, pending Board of Trustees approval. Meurs will be the first female dean of the college and the inaugural recipient of the Randall B. Terry Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine Endowed Dean’s Chair. Meurs takes the permanent position after serving as interim dean of the college since Jan. 18, following the departure of former dean Paul Lunn to become dean of the University of Liverpool School of Veterinary Science.

NC State Announces Inaugural Goodnight Early Career Innovators

NC State’s inaugural class of Goodnight Early Career Innovators has been announced. This new program will strengthen retention by recognizing and rewarding promising NC State early-career faculty whose scholarship is in STEM or STEM education, and it was made possible by a gift from longtime NC State supporters Dr. Jim and Mrs. Ann Goodnight. The 24 faculty selected will receive $22,000 ­for each of the next three years to support their scholarship and research endeavors.

College of Sciences Honors 2020-21 LeRoy and Elva Martin Award Recipients

Michael Taveirne, teaching assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and Eric Chi, assistant professor in the Department of Statistics, have been honored with the 2020-21 LeRoy and Elva Martin Award for Teaching Excellence. The award was created in 2001 by the late LeRoy Martin Jr., a longtime mathematics professor at NC State, to honor his parents.

Aysu and Ozturk Receive ECE Faculty Awards

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering recently announced that Aydin Aysu and Mehmet Ozturk are the 2020 recipients of its R. Ray Bennet Faculty Fellow Award and William F. Lane Outstanding Teaching Award, respectively. Aysu is an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, while Mehmet Ozturk is a professor of electrical and computer engineering.

2019-20 University Teaching Awards Announced

NC State has honored more than 30 faculty for their commitment to educational excellence with the 2019-20 University Teaching Awards, including the UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Gertrude Cox Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology and the Alumni Association's Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award.

In Memoriam: Charlie Coe

Charles K. Coe, professor emeritus of public administration and an outstanding member of NC State's faculty for 28 years, passed away Feb. 5. He and his wife Marty felt strongly about supporting faculty research and graduate students. They created a bequest to enhance research within the School of Public and International Affairs.
