Above and Beyond: Student Employees Earn Special Scholarship for Commitment to Wellness

More than 700 students are employed part-time in various positions with Wellness and Recreation. This year, Carson Kelber ’21 and Dani Dalton ’21 were recognized in a virtual ceremony as recipients of the Wellness and Recreation Friends and Family Student-Employee Scholarship. The award provides financial assistance to two undergraduate student employees who uphold Wellness and Recreation's mission while serving as as leaders and role models.

Bain Receives the Isaac Frank Ormond III Scholarship

NC State's Department of Health and Exercise Studies announced that junior Crista Bain has been named the latest recipient of the Isaac Frank Ormond III Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes a strong, consistent commitment to the field of health and exercise studies through participation in extracurricular activities, internships, certifications and other educational opportunities. Recipients demonstrate characteristics such as good character and strong academic standing.

Angela C. Caraway Family Scholarship a Dream Come True

Angela Caraway '95 has stayed connected to NC State through her work as the event planner for Packapalooza, and as a board member for the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity and for the National Diversity Advisory Board. She recently furthered that connection by establishing the Caraway Family Scholarship to support first-generation students from North Carolina's rural counties. A combination of planned and annual gifts helped Caraway realize her dream of honoring her family in this way.

Honoring the Class of 2020: Jayna Lennon

While serving on Student Government as a first-year senator, Park Scholar and Mathews Medalist Jayna Lennon saw the need for addressing food insecurity. She has served as executive director of Feed the Pack, an organization that addresses food insecurity, and as a mental health ambassador in the campus Counseling Center, challenging mental health stigmas that include those surrounding eating disorders.

The (Art) Show Goes On, and Visual Artist Awards Are Announced

In 2017, Arts NC State received a generous gift to create a visual artist award for the student art annual sale, to recognize NC State students for their outstanding work in the visual arts. Jornell Bacon, Jake Goodnight and Grayson Morrow were named this year's winners, and art continues to be available at links shared on the Arts NC State Flickr gallery.

Receiving the Textile Military Scholarship didn’t just enhance Garrett Welsh’s NC State experience — it served as a vote of a confidence in his abilities and confirmation that his work in the classroom and as a member of the Naval ROTC hadn’t gone unnoticed. He’ll soon be applying the skills he learned in college to a career in the Navy.
