Day of Giving: Edgar Mancia Garcia ’20

For Edgar Mancia Garcia ’20, a Salvadorian Guatemalan student from Durham, North Carolina, coming to a PWI was a big culture shock. Fortunately, Garcia was able to find a community and form meaningful bonds with fellow NC State students, with the help of Multicultural Student Affairs, before his first semester even began.

Day of Giving: Kali Fillhart ’21

The stars aligned for Kali Fillhart ’21, a Virginia native studying anthropology and creative writing, when she came to NC State and developed her passion for activism and feminism. Fillhart’s passions have led her to work as a poll worker for the primary and general elections, learn about the intersection of astrology and feminism at the Portland School of Astrology during a gap year, volunteer as an interpersonal violence prevention peer educator with The Movement and work as a programming intern for the Women’s Center.

Day of Giving Raises Over $1 Million for Student Emergency Fund

The Student Emergency Fund provides microgrants to help students pay for unexpected expenses related to housing, food, medical bills and technology. The program has been especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, with many experiencing sudden job loss and adjusting to remote education. Thanks to donor support on NC State Day of Giving: Stronger as a Pack, the fund is in a better position to help more students through financial challenges now and in the future.
