Seltzer Joins Staff of College of Engineering

Sara Seltzer is now serving as director of development for both the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Seltzer joined NC State in 2013 as a development specialist for Arts NC State and later was promoted to assistant director of development for the Division of Academic and Student Affairs.

Amoah Receives First Place at Workshop

Materials science and engineering graduate student Stephen Amoah, who spoke at NC State's Red and White Night celebration in 2017, was honored as ORaCEL (Organic and Carbon Electronics Labs) held the Future of Materials Workshop at Talley Student Union. The aim was to “address the grand challenges facing the next generation of functional materials by fostering collaborative activities that harness a wide-range of research tools and intellectual resources within the Research Triangle area.” Amoah works in the lab of Franky So, Walter and Ida Freeman Distinguished Professor.

Blasting Off into History

When Christina Hammock Koch – a three-time alumna of NC State – blasts off for the International Space Station this Thursday, she’ll be launching in the middle of Women’s History Month. Her mission will represent the culmination of nearly six years of challenging training since she was selected to be one of NASA’s eight astronauts in the Class of 2013. And Koch, who spoke at the university's 2017 Red and White Night celebration, is slated to be part of a historic all-female spacewalk later this month.

Researchers Engineer A Tougher Fiber

Led by Alcoa Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Michael Dickey, a group of NC State researchers have developed a fiber that combines the elasticity of rubber with the strength of metal, resulting in a tougher material that could be incorporated in soft robotics, packaging materials or next-generation textiles.
