Grants Expand Options for North Carolina Farmers

A $1.5 million grant from the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission will help farmers upgrade, diversify and maintain family farms throughout the state. It is the latest in continued funding by the commission to NC State’s AgVentures program.

NC State Names New Murdock Distinguished Professors

Colin Kay and Giuseppe Valacchi, professors at NC State’s Plants for Human Health Institute in Kannapolis, North Carolina, have been named David H. Murdock Distinguished Professors. The professorships are funded by an endowment created by a $2 million gift from David Murdock, former CEO of Dole Foods and other businesses, and a matching $1 million gift from the North Carolina Distinguished Professors Endowment Trust Fund.

Rodolphe Barrangou Named to National Inventors Hall of Fame

Rodolphe Barrangou, Todd R. Klaenhammer Distinguished Professor in the Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences, has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in recognition of his inventions, creativity, and spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. Barrangou becomes the seventh NC State faculty member to be elected into the hall and will be formally inducted during a ceremony at the organization’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in October.
