Sharon Joines Announced as Interim Dean of College of Design

Sharon Joines, Ph.D., has been named interim dean for the College of Design, effective July 1. An NC State alumna with three degrees and a faculty member with more than two decades of service to the university, Joines was also a John T. Caldwell Scholar, Merit Scholar, University Scholar and NC Fellow during her time as a Wolfpack student.

Casey Adams Jones Succeeds Mike Holmquist as Board for Student Success Chair

After more than a decade of service as chair of NC State’s Board for Student Success, Mike Holmquist will step down this fall and Casey Adams Jones ’07 will take up the mantle. A passionate NC State supporter as well as alumna, Adams Jones and her sorority sisters recently created the Financial Fortitude Scholarship, and she has personally created the Casey Adams Jones Scholarship in TRIO Programs.

NC State Naval ROTC Honors Fallen Alum With New Scholarship Endowment

NC State Naval ROTC recently honored the life and legacy of Lt. Cmdr. Eric Cranford, an alumnus of the battalion and the Poole College of Management who perished at the Pentagon during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, by presenting the first annual scholarship in his memory.

Drake Bratton ’86 left New Bern to attend NC State, which has nurtured his father, uncles, brothers and sons as well. The family has a legacy of involvement with the university, and Bratton also became a donor to give back to the institution they love so much.

Hassan Gift Accelerates Hypersonics Research

Three-time NC State alumnus Basil Hassan has elevated his family’s long-held ties to the university’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) with a naming gift for the high-speed wind tunnel laboratory located in MAE West. The newly named Hassan Lab was officially dedicated on April 23, recognizing the significant support and resources Hassan’s gift will provide faculty and students who are innovating in a rapidly advancing field.

Harry Sideris, CEO of Duke Energy, To Address 2026 Graduates

NC State alumnus and donor Harry Sideris ’94 will deliver the spring 2026 commencement address on May 9. Sideris and his wife, Catinna, created the Sideris Family Scholarship in 2021 to support Wolfpack students pursuing a dual major in chemical engineering and paper science and engineering. He also served on the Natural Resources Foundation Board from 2015 through 2023.
