The Provost Picks a Winner With New Howling Cow Ice Cream Flavor

Carl Hollifield, director of NC State’s Dairy Enterprise System, along with fellow dairy processing expert Gary Cartwright, helped make the coffee flavor in the new Caramel Mocha Latte truly outstanding. The two received support from the Chancellor’s Innovation Fund after discovering a way to convert coffee beans into a direct food additive.

NC State Breaks Ground on New Apiculture Research Facility

The future for bees — and the food supply ​​— is brighter with the recent groundbreaking of NC State’s new 5,000-square-foot apiculture research facility. The new facility is the result of a years-long effort to allocate and raise funds, including $4 million in funding from the state of North Carolina for construction of the building as well as fundraising by the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association for an endowed professorship.

A group of College of Education students had the opportunity to give back to their communities last summer through the College of Education Summer Internship Program, a competitive five-week program created in memory of Chantal Warfield ’19. Participants received financial support for their work in high-needs communities.

Poultry Science Celebrates 100 Years at NC State

NC State is celebrating a century of poultry research and collaboration with an eye on the next 100 years of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science, which was named for Bill and Marsha Prestage following their gift to the department. Ongoing work to establish a future-proof food supply, prepare graduates for in-demand jobs and advance research on sustainable production took center stage at a recent gathering at the Park Alumni Center to mark the milestone anniversary.
