A Study in Gratitude

Bella the Labrador retriever and her owner, Valerie Maitre of Wilmington, are thankful for the Petco Foundation's three-year grant to the NC State Veterinary Hospital. The funding established a program to help defray the cost of cancer treatment for small companion animals like cats and dogs, making advanced cancer care more accessible to pet owners and increasing opportunities for veterinarians to learn more from their clinical experiences.

New Ag Ed Scholarship Honors Retired Teacher

A new scholarship offered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences will help juniors and seniors who want to be agricultural teachers but face financial or other obstacles. The scholarship was established by CALS alumnus Larry Coats and honors Fred William Manley, a 1959 graduate who devoted 41 years of his life to teaching.

Five graduate students in the College of Textiles were recently awarded the Gordon and Marjorie Osborne Scholarship. Established by a gift from the Gordon and Marjorie Osborne Foundation, the scholarship helps recruit a competitive and diverse group of grad students – and helps recipients focus on their studies instead of worrying about how to make ends meet.
