CHIPS Funding Fuels Two New Initiatives Backed by NC State

Fred Kish, the MC Dean Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the co-director of a brand-new regional innovation hub for wide bandgap semiconductors, which offer higher voltage and temperature capacity than traditional silicon chips. The hub, “Commercial Leap Ahead for Wide Bandgap Semiconductors” — or CLAWS, for short — is one of two initiatives funded through the CHIPS and Science Act that NC State will play a key role in.

Four Faculty Members Win Outstanding Research Award, Induction to Research Leadership Academy

Four NC State faculty members, including several distinguished professors, won the university’s top award for research and mentorship in 2024, highlighting their exceptional contributions to their respective fields. The Outstanding Research Award recognizes faculty who lead in their areas of expertise; empower the success of their fellow NC State faculty; and advance an intellectual, multidisciplinary research community.

Faculty and Staff Receive Awards From NC State Global

Louis Martin-Vega Dean, Professors of Chemical Engineering Laura Bottomley and Richard Spontak were recently recognized as part of NC State Global’s 2024 Honors and Awards Luncheon. Bottomley was named Outstanding Global Engagement Award Senior Faculty Recipient, and Spontak was named Jackson Rigney International Service Award Recipient.

Announcing the Park Alumni Society Board for 2024-2026

The Park Scholarships program recently announced the new board members of the Park Alumni Society for 2024-2026. The society was formed in 2003 to serve as a clearinghouse for information for Park alumni, foster interaction between alumni and current scholars, be involved in the program’s recruitment and selection process, and more. These six new members, along with three returning members, will further that work.

Sassorossi Family Establishes Scholarship for Paper Science Majors

Deanna and Sarah Sassorossi began to dream about giving back to the College of Natural Resources long before their graduation in 2016 and 2017, respectively. That dream has since grown from small gifts to an endowed scholarship in support of NC State’s Day of Giving 2024.
