Chemist Chang Named LORD Distinguished Scholar

The College of Sciences has named Wei-chen Chang, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, as the Thomas Lord, LORD Corporation Distinguished Scholar at NC State. The distinguished professorship was made possible thanks to a gift from LORD Corporation.

Estate Gift Will Establish King Family Peace Studies Lecture Series at the Libraries

The King Family Peace Studies Lecture Series Endowment is made possible through the generosity of Cyrus B. King Jr. and continues the King family’s philanthropic legacy at the Libraries. The endowment will be used to fund a lecture series that features speakers on peace-related topics such as contemporary social justice, civil rights and peacebuilding, providing a meaningful forum for discussion and debate of these topics.

Biological and Agricultural Engineering Student Explores Biofuel at National Laboratory

Paige Seibert comes from a small town in Maryland, but her ambitions will help create a sustainable future for millions of people across the United States. The Park Scholar and rising senior in the College of Engineering is interning this summer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado, giving her the opportunity to learn how to help save our planet — Seibert’s lifelong dream.

Plants in Thin Air

Kaleb Goff, a third-year doctoral student in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology, found a career by taking his interest in the outdoors to its highest level — 14,000 feet above sea level, in fact, where he studies alpine plants. Now, he’s studying the current and future impacts of climate change on alpine plant species on summits of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Great Basin in California and Nevada.

Brown Family Makes Transformational Gift

Computer Science alumnus and Hall of Fame inductee Tony McLean Brown and the Brown family recently made a $1 million pledge to the department to create a named distinguished professorship, a named graduate fellowship and a named undergraduate scholarship. The commitment was announced as part of NC State’s fifth annual Day of Giving, helping the Department of Computer Science set an all-time single-day giving record with total gifts and pledges exceeding $3.8 million.

Chuck Flink Recognized as One of ASLA’s 2023 Awardees with LaGasse Medal

Charles A. “Chuck” Flink, FASLA is the 2023 recipient of the LaGasse Medal. An invaluable supporter of NC State, Flink is also a two-time alumnus of the College of Design, currently teaches as part of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design, serves as the director of the NC State Initiative for Community Growth and Development and is the owner and founder of Greenways, Inc.
