In his 41 years at NC State, the late geologist Ron Fodor made an impact on several generations of students. The Ron V. Fodor Endowment will further his legacy by supporting geoscience student research, travel and field-based experiences in the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.

Charles Allen Sanders ’85 Named Executive Director of Pulp and Paper Advisory Board

Sanders, an alumnus of the College of Natural Resources’ paper science and engineering program, brings more than 30 years in the paper industry to the board. In his new role, he will serve as an interface between the advisory board and corporate and individual contributors, manage day-to-day activities of the board, work to establish goals and objectives to grow the endowment and assist in alumni communications.

A Passion for Plant Research

Imani Madison, who earned her Ph.D. in plant biology from NC State in 2022, was recently awarded the 2022 Kenneth R. Keller Research Award. Madison will remain at NC State through spring as a postdoctoral researcher in the Sozzani Lab, where she’s involved in developing precise ways of crop breeding, working with plants at the cellular level.

Olby Wins 2023 AVMA Career Achievement in Canine Research Award

Natasha Olby, the Dr. Kady M. Gjessing and Rahna M. Davidson Distinguished Chair in Gerontology at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, is the 2023 winner of the AVMA Career Achievement in Canine Research Award. Olby spent two decades working on improving outcomes of spinal cord injury in dogs before shifting her focus to aging.

Bacterium Associated With Disease Found in N.C. Chiggers

A bacterium that causes a disease called scrub typhus — a disease not previously reported in the United States — has been detected in North Carolina, according to a new study by researchers at NC State and UNC-Greensboro. R. Michael Roe, William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor of Entomology at NC State, is a co-author of the paper.
