Debbie Acker Appointed Director of Shelton Leadership Center

Debbie Acker, interim director of NC State’s Shelton Leadership Center (SLC), has been named permanent director of the center following the retirement of Barbara Mulkey. Formerly the SLC’s senior associate director for operations and academic programs, Acker will continue working to inspire, educate and develop values-based leaders in her new role.

Senior Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship Tom Miller to Retire

Miller will retire effective July 1, 2022, after 40 years of service to NC State. He previously stepped down as senior vice provost for academic outreach and entrepreneurship to focus on leading NC State Entrepreneurship. His direction of the latter has allowed NC State to expand entrepreneurship engagement across disciplines and support an increasing number of students as they develop entrepreneurial mindsets.

Ray Odierno, Alum Who Served as Top Army General, Dies

Retired Army Chief of Staff Raymond T. Odierno, a four-star general who led multinational forces in the Iraq War and reshaped the way U.S. troops are trained and deployed, died of cancer on Oct. 8. Odierno earned a master’s degree in nuclear effects engineering from NC State and generously supported the university in a variety of ways, including serving as the chair of the university’s Board of Visitors and a member of the Board of Trustees.

Terrence Curtin Society Honors NC State Veterinary Medicine’s Founding Dean

The College of Veterinary Medicine’s new Terrence Curtin Society honors the legacy of its founding dean, who passed away in December, while also recognizing the individuals whose generous financial support enables the college to build on his work. Those who annually donate $1,000 or more to the college’s All Gifts Great and Small Fund will automatically become society members.

Park Scholars To Earn Leadership Certificate

Beginning with the Park Scholarships Class of 2024, scholars will complete the Leadership Development Program Leadership Certificate offered by NC State’s Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (SL&E). SL&E creates and connects students to opportunities to gain knowledge, skills, tools and experiences to practice socially responsible leadership and positively contribute to a socially just world.
