An Extraordinary Gift Honors NC State’s Veteran and Military-Affiliated Students

NC State alumnus and former officer in the U.S. Navy Jeff Wright has made a gift to name the Jeffrey Wright Military and Veteran Services program. His support will benefit the university’s more than 2,000 self-identified veterans and children or spouses of veterans and strengthens NC State’s reputation as a military-friendly school.

New Funding Program Supports Diversity and Inclusion Projects

A new donor-funded program is supporting students, faculty and staff in the College of Natural Resources as they look to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and justice. The program, which is supported by the Community for Diversity Enhancement Account and managed by CNR’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, allows students, faculty and staff to request funds for innovative ideas that help improve retention, climate, culture, inclusive teaching and recruitment activities related to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice within the college.

Park Scholar Emma Grace Barnes ’24 Co-founds Lux To Support Survivors of Sexual Violence

Lux is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Barnes started with Catherine Carter, another NC State student, to support survivors of sexual violence by providing hotlines, information and legal resources. Their hope is that the organization can be the first stop for survivors after a traumatic event happens.

NC State is working with Shelton Vineyards to license a new wine called The Brickyard. For the Sheltons, partnering with the university helps further the vision of the vineyard’s founders to improve education in their community and in their state. Proceeds from the sale of The Brickyard and other planned vintages will go to the NC State general scholarship fund.

Faculty and researchers in the College of Education, including the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, were awarded $6,865,526 to support nine projects from July 1 through Sept. 30, 2021.
